about

Marking the 25th anniversary of their debut release, The Pozers deliver, yet again, with their 7th CD, 'Crybaby Bridge': Pure Power Pop with lyrics ranging from the pitfalls of fame, to love, nostalgia, youth, breakups, death, regret, stalking, & suicide.

Produced by Matt Sharp and mastered by Adam Hamilton, The Pozers deliver one of the best albums of their 25 year recording career. Ray Gianchetti of Kool Kat Music describes 'Crybaby Bridge' wonderfully in this CD Review:

"The Pozers’ 7th album, “Crybaby Bridge,” may be the closest thing to a concept record we’ve seen from them in their 25 year recording career. With intelligent lyrics and hook-filled melodies, the record is the much anticipated follow-up to its highly successful and critically acclaimed predecessor, “The Sun’s Going Down.” It is the first album by The Pozers, since “We're The Pozers and so Are You” (1996), to feature all songs written by Jim Richey and lead guitarist virtuoso, Kenny Swann, and is sure to please all fans of The Pozers who have grown to expect and love their intelligent lyrics and catchy melodies. From the thought-provoking/ tongue-in-cheek album artwork, to the variance in topics of each song, the record seems to have a theme running throughout it which focuses on the pitfalls of fame and success. Some of the songs were inspired by real-life associations with Elliott Smith, Cady McClain, and Alanis Morissette culminating with the epic finale, "So Long," a tribute to Marilyn Monroe. 25 years...the "silver anniversary" of The Pozers. That's a long time, and a lot has happened during that time. When Jim Richey formed The Pozers in 1994, to showcase his original music, he was a young struggling musician who worked at a record store, was studio session musician for hire, and taught music lessons to make ends meet. During the last 25 years, not only has Richey guided The Pozers on their successful power pop journey, he has gone on to earn a Doctorate degree, and become an award-winning author/poet and English professor. Upon reflecting on the longevity and success of The Pozers, Richey states, 'The songs are all that ever really mattered. We will continue writing songs and releasing albums as long as there are people who like them. I have been very blessed to work and play alongside some of the best people in the business; it's been an honor, a blast, and an unforgettable ride.' EXCELLENT!!"--Ray Gianchetti of Kool Kat Music

Here are what music critics in the entertainment industry are saying about 'Crybaby Bridge':

"CRYBABY BRIDGE, the latest and greatest from THE POZERS, is here and it's a power pop rock delight! The CD is consistently awesome throughout with one golden nugget after another. The sound is perfect and draws on many of the great ones like The BEATLES, CHEAP TRICK, ENUFF ZNUFF etc...(all while still retaining their own delightful style and sound.) This CD is an easy one to recommended as the sound is very inviting and enjoyable! GRADE A ***** Be sure to pick this one up ...Highly Recommended!" --Jam Records

"This is The Pozers 7th album. They've been around for more than 25 years and are no longer the new sophomore to music. We're hooked. A sweet balance of Cheap Trick and George Harrison (their song 'SoCal'). Their lyrics are simple, fittingly Power Pop since most seem to be about girl love, but there's a definite sardonic wit that's missing from a lot of Power Pop/Bubblegum lyrics. The album title, Crybaby Bridge is proof in the pudding, it's an admission that you're going to hear songs that should be accompanied by the world's smallest violin, not by jangly guitars. But an album of tiny violin music wouldn't make our Top 10 list. The band is based out of Dallas Texas once more proving there must be something in the southern waters that are putting Power Pop melodies into the minds of great musicians. The intro to The Obvious Ledge says "I'm just the wrong kind of person to be really big and famous." Well, if Power Pop were to actually get the attention it deserves, you would be. My favorite song is 'The only Girl.' Made our Top 10 CD's released in 2019!" -- Hop on Power Pop (Nadja Dee)

"The Pozers-Crybaby Bridge. The Pozers are one of power pop's best-kept secrets despite having been around for some 25 years. On their seventh album, they continue to deliver the goods. Unlike a lot of other power poppers, all the songs on a Pozers album don't sound the same, and here we have "SoCal" which despite its title sounds more like The Beatles than The Beach Boys, "The Only Girl" which kinda does sound like The Beach Boys, the psych-rock of "Telling My Secrets" and the 70s pop of "If You Really Wanna Know". Quality all around, and disc comes with acoustic and remixed versions of most of its tracks if you're into that sort of thing. All in all not bad for a band led by a guy (Jim Richey) who's an English professor with a Ph.D." -- Absolute Powerpop

"This is a priceless scene: me, my wife, and my 7-year-old son dancing to "The Only Girl" like there's no tomorrow and exuding pure happiness. And it is these sensations that make it all worthwhile. "Crybaby Bridge" (6th Floor Records- 2019) is the new album by Dallas band, The Pozers, and features a collection of exciting pop songs such as "The Only Girl," which is followed by one of the season's most contagious songs: the ultra-mega-super catchy "Nonstop." The group has been around for a long time and it's been on my radar for a few years, but this is the first album I actually bought. Time to investigate previous work, other priceless moments may be hidden in some delicious songs." --Paolo Milea (Author/Music Critic from Brazil)

"Texas-based band The Pozers are back with two distinct songwriters [Jim Richey and Kenny Swann] as they sing about nostalgia, youth, breakups, regret, and death. Starting with a hard rock riff and an echoing lead vocal by Kenny Swann on the opener “Goodbye (I’m Gone),” Richey’s “Two” is a much more interesting tune, as a psyche-pop mid-tempo gem with layered harmonies and a nice instrumental break at the midpoint. Next, “SoCal” is another Richey song and you’ll hear echoes of Badfinger in this tune about chasing fame. He sings “So tell me how’s the life you’re making? If you cry just say you’re faking.” “The Only Girl” is like a Beach Boys tune played at half speed and it contrasts with Swann’s “Nonstop” with its frantic drum pounding. Some songs with this approach work great like “Teenage Storybook,” and “So Long.” ”The Obvious Ledge” is a worthy tribute to the late Elliot Smith. There is enough here to keep most power pop fans interested, and I would recommend you check it out." --Powerpopaholic

"I think the whole album is solid. In my Top 25 CD releases in 2019. My favorite tracks are "Two," "Nonstop," "Telling my secrets," "So long." I'm on my 3rd listen! It's my current playlist. The Pozers are very consistent from album to album. Looking forward to future releases. I really enjoyed it! Have a great New Year! --Dan Lambert

"I liked this album. There are various types of songs, Beatlesh songs, it's great! I would recommend it to my Japanese friends." -Yoshiyuki Morikawa (Japan music critic)

"I like it a lot. It’s a very strong album with great tracks as ” Goodbye, Telling my secrets ...”--Per Dahlkvist (Sweden music critic)

"I've been listening to the new Pozers CD, "Crybaby Bridge". Very very good...I see you haven't lost the knack for writing and performing good melodic Pop-Rock songs. That's an art I hold dear having grown up in that era, and is what I expected from you guys. Also, really nice packaging of the CD and cover...impressive. Keep up the good work and best of luck. Enjoy what you're doing, although that shows without saying." --Richie Fontana (Piper and Paul Stanley)

--G.G. Gebert (Author/ former keyboardist for Angel)

“I am still listening to your CD, noticing and enjoying the Enuff Z'Nuff, ELO, Beatlesque influences. Well done! You’ve got a nice voice, good flavor and play the drums pretty damn well. I really enjoyed your album cover; actually loved the concept especially you (the photo) being the last one on the bridge. You are a great songwriter and drummer and every-around artist Jim, one of the best.” --Billy Dior [McCarthy] (Author/ drummer for D’molls)

"You have always had a great sense of melody. I like all your songs." --Joey C. Jones (Sweet Savage. C.C. Deville band. Glory Hounds)

"It's a great CD! Highly Recommended! --Jaimie Vernon (President Bullseye Records)
