“The Fascination”--(Hamm)
She waits for no one; no one’s her star.
And she’ll never get over; no she’ll never get far.
She shields her eyes from the wake of the sun.
She feels surprised at the damage she’s done so far this morning.
Since her alarm broke all the spells that he spoke
From the night before and spilled them ‘cross her bedroom floor.
If she ever needed someone to believe in,
There has never been a better time for looking inward.
She makes her mind up, then makes her bed
As she lays with the lies that have laid in her head.
Identity unknown, a ghost in the machine
The only interest shown from an Oz behind the screen
Who sends the message:
“I await your reply,” another dream to see die.
Across a screen so clear, he’s typing what she wants to hear.
Through time and cyberspace, all she needs a familiar face.
In her mind she must replace, all the things she’s kept in hiding.
Can’t you see the fascination in her?
She’s got a child in her eyes.
Wrecking ball in a world of wonder,
She wonders why she tries.
And she knows, And she feels,
That her fascination’s so unreal.
And she dies, Every night.
Her face is faded in illuminated light
From above/and she needs someone to love.
She’s got a lot to learn about her faith
In man-made and mankind.
So now around she turns
She finally learns it’s true that love is blind.
A pixilated Peter Pan, her every wish at his command.
All she wants to be set free A product of technology
A good line is the best defense to keep it all from making sense.
The only thing she has against it all is her fascination.

“The Stage”--(Richey)
It was for worse but it’s not forever.
Sometimes I think the feeling’s better
to disregard or make believe
that what was once can never be.
We walk from one stage to another
Led like sheep into the slaughter.
Everyone must find their place
into a world that they create for them,
my friend.
No salvation, the fee is your imagination.
The end to each beginning is the stage.
And I want to take you there tonight.
When you learn to read the writing
you’ll notice life’s not as inviting
as you were told when you were younger;
you’ll feel the water pull you under.
Sometimes I’ll find me in the past
as if it had not come to pass,
as if it will come once again
and things could work out like we planned,
again.
---------------
“The Separation”--(Richey)
I haven’t called to say I love you;
it’s been awhile but you know I do.
I hope this time apart has done us good.
I can’t erase a single memory.
I can’t replace what you mean to me:
every touch, every kiss, every blink of your eyes.
When I heard you say “I love you,”
I couldn’t believe those words came from you,
then I saw that you were talking to me.
It’s all right; it’s OK
just as long as you’ll be my baby.
I don’t really think you’re stalling
but that won’t keep my heart from falling-
in love, with you.
And now I know you love me too.
This separation must be ended
The celebration has descended again.
Make the rounds quietly softly.
All this time tears still taste salty.
You’re always sad when you’re with me.
Well that’s OK I’ll see your heartbreak
and raise you two more words that you hate.
Why must obsession end in pain?
It’s OK to feel depression
when you find a love detection.
You’re the only dream I ever loved.
